Chapter 4: Time-Based Analysis of Students Studying the Periodic Table

1. This chapter Time-Based Analysis of Students Studying the Periodic Table in the book “Learning with computer’ was written by Kim Issroff

The chapter discusses ways in which investigation can be done with both qualitative and quantitative changes to highlight the significance of the the temporal dimensions in the analysis of Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning Interactions. Where variety of Computer-Based tools were available for the analysis Video-tapes but are are seldom used to investigate the  nature of collaborative interactions. More so, the chapter provides the full descriptions of the use of  computer-based tool for analysis of Computer-supported Collaboration and evaluates its use.

2. The main methodology used in this research work is the case study approach
3.The samples are five(5) pair of students selected from the videotapes form a study involving fifty-five (55) students in year 9 age range between 13 and 14 years of age
4. The data collection methods was based on the use of the quantitative data from pre and post-test and videotape and qualitative data from questionnaire administrations and observation
5. The data was analyzed by using the timeline software which supports three (3) different types of  qualitative data: events, interval and comments
